LED Tubes at Costco - Died after 11 months

Jul
12

OMG. One of my LED Tubes died after 11 months.  It's supposed to last 45 years.  It didn't even make 1 year.  I am disappointed.

I took it back the next day (Costco handled it no problem) - and I bought the same pair as a replacement.  I hope they last 45 years as they promise.  This was a little hassle (waste of my time), but I was glad I bought them from Costco.  Imagine if I bought them from elsewhere, or online store, etc..  then I'll have to package it and ship them back???  I avoided a major hassle because I shopped at Costco.

Buying a defective item is something you cannot avoid. It's nobody's fault.

Below is my blog from 11 months ago - about the light tube.

#####

The new technology is here.  And it's available at Costco.  This is quickly becoming an old news.  But, for now, I am excited about this new technology.

You can now replace 4 feet florescent tubes with LEDs without modifying internal wiring of the fixture.  You simply replace the tubes.  They are expensive, but not by much.  I replaced 4 tubes in the kitchen ceiling, and I am happy about how they perform.  They save electricity.  They will last 45 years.  So, I wrote down the installation date on the tubes.  If they stop working after only 44 years, I will take them back for a refund.

Technical Info

  • Uses 17 Watts (instead of normal 40 Watts)
  • Instant on
  • No humming (buzzing) noise.
  • Cool white 4100k color
  • 50,000 run hours (45 years in normal use)

This irritates me.  Did he mean November 2004? or April 2011 ?

Garage Sale - July 2, 2016

Jul
04

I didn't find a Michelangelo, but I hit a small jackpot today at a garage sale.

Below picture shows about 75% of what I bought from one garage sale. I also bought a buch of earings (not pictured).  I paid about $10 for everything I have on my hand . They are all sterling silver.

I am hoping to sell these from here, at my blog, not via eBay.  We'll see...

Important Reminder - Your AmEx card will stop working tomorrow

Jun
19

This is important.  I wanted to double check with some of you.

Starting tomorrow, your AmEx/Costoco card will stop working PERIOD. Don't get confused and think you can still use your AmEx/Costco card at other places outside of Costco.

Your card will stop working completely.  According to AmEx website, you cannot even access your web account starting tomorrow (June 20, 2016).

Good luck.

Garage Sale - June 11, 2016

Jun
15

This is one of the top reasons why people enjoy garage sales.

It was past 10AM.  I was coming home from garage sales.  By 10AM, every garage sale had 100+ visitors checking out their stuff.  So, you can't expect to find anything significant.

When I was almost home, I saw my neighbor having a garage sale yet again.  I didn't buy anything from them last 2 times.  But, I stopped by anyway, because you never know...  That's the whole game, you never know.

Then I found this solid 925 (Sterling) silver earings with Turquoise (?).  I believe they are vintage.  I still need to clean them.  They were 50 Cents!  My educated guess is that I can sell them for $15-$20 (plus shipping) on eBay.  But, I'm not going to sell them on eBay.  It's too much hassle.  And I don't want to pay fees to eBay & PayPal.

I would rather sell them to my website visitor for $6.  Let me know if you want to buy them. :)   (* plus $3 shipping).

Too Much Free Time - Columbo

Jun
15

On Sunday, I watched a few episodes of Columbo (70's TV show).

One of the episodes showed a building in LA. So, I got online and looked for that building.  I am pretty sure I found the building.

Then I took a nap.  ZZzz....   Crazy good timez.  :)

From Columbo (70's)

What I found online. 40 years later.

Keep using AmEx until 19th - Start Using Citi at 20th

Jun
09

Keep using your American Express Costco card through June 19th (Sunday)
Start using your new Citi card on Monday, June 20th.

Your Costco rewards will be carried over to your Citi card automatically (according to Costco).

If you received your new Citi card, activate/check-in your card.  You can do so by calling or getting online.  It took me about 5 minutes (or less) to check in online.

I don't know about you, but I have absolutely no reason to use American Express card anymore.  I've alway thought American Express was hoity toity.  Costco was the only reason I opened the account.

Enjoy~!!

PS. Oh, Christmas is coming to costco in 7 weeks.  :)

Golden Island Jerky

May
31

Company website: www.GoldenIslandJerky.com

*Your jerky preference may be different than mine.

Have you tried jerkies by Golden Island? I see them occasionally at Costco.  I usually see one flavor at a time. They sell jerkies with exotic & unique flavors such as Kung Pao Beef & Korean Barbecue Pork.  They are tender and rich in flavor.

Their jerkies are handcrafted in small batches - according to their website.

I wondered about how they tasted.  Then I received these samples.  I can't describe taste with words - but they are all good.  My favorite is Kung Pao beef.  If I see them at Costco I will buy some.  I thought may be close up pictures can show the textures.  They may give you some idea.

Most jerkies in the market have a similar taste.  They have a common theme going on.  But, Golden Island sells jerkies with unique taste that if I have a craving for Kung Pao beef,  there will be no substitute for it. Maybe this kind of jerky is common in China Town.... (?) I don't know.

If you are a jerky lover who likes Asian & ethnic taste, these may be a special treat for you.  You can see them occasionally at Costco.

Look below for pictures and my quick reviews on each product.

Grilled Barbecue - Although I enjoyed it, this tasted more "Common" to me.

Korean Barbeque (Pork) - Very nice and exotic (different)

Sriracha (pork) - Very nice and exotic (different)

Kung Pao (Beef) - Perhaps my favorite of them all.  It's exotic, spicy (not very spicy), and has rich ethnic taste.  Look at all that peppers.  It doesn't taste like anything I've tasted before. I liked it a lot.  I want some more.

Pen 15 - Exclusive Club

May
25

My favorite coworker at work is exactly 20 years younger than I am.  I call her my "Little buddy".  I think I am her favorite coworker as well.  Sometimes she declines lunch dates with young guys so she can have a fun and relaxing lunch with "Uncle John", that's what she calls me.

One day we were talking about how old I was - like we often do for fun.  Then she told me about this exclusive club named Pen 15.  "Either you're in or out.  But, I think you are too old to even know about it" she stated.

"10-15?" I asked.   "Nono.. Pen15" she said...  "Ah~ let me show you.  give me your hand."  So I gave her my hand.

This is what she wrote on my hand (below)

"You suck!" I yelled at her.   "Hahaha!  I owned you!"  she laughed.
