14th Costco shopping in 2018 – $122.33 (today) / $658.16 (this year)

Today is the first day of Costco Coupon Book savings. I saved $15.20 on Doritos and vitamins.

I am still not sure if Focus Factor works for me.  I have a decent job where I work with people 15-20 younger than I am.  I desparately would like to perform at my peak level.  They are little over $15 a bottle.  I have no problem paying for them.

I bought 2 pairs of Kirkland Signature Brushed Twill Pants for $16.99 each (Item #7407740 – Free Shipping – link while available).  These pants are very good and I don’t have to iron them.  These are better than Calvin Klein or Buffalo David Bitton jeans.  You see, brand name clothes you find at Costco are made just for Costco.  They don’t have the same quality and integrity of expensive Calvin Klein clothes you will find at official retail stores.  So, when I “like” Calvin Klein pants from Costco, my level of satisfaction is somewhere between 75% – 85%.   I used to like them more, but I feel that the quality had gone down noticeably.  Sometimes I feel insulted because of lacking quality on CK items at Costco.  Some CK items at Costco are plain ugly.  I buy them because they are cheap.

These Kirkland Signature Brushed Twill pants are cheap ($16.99) but high quality.  With these pants, you are separating yourself from the “Jean People”.  Compared to jeans, these pants will make you look more matured and professional.  They are the ultimate office pants for men. I highly recommend Kirkland Signature Brushed Twill Pants. I repeat, you do not have to iron these (*If you know what you are doing).

These pants are thin. They are not for cold weather.  Yesterday was a cold day.  So, I wore a pair of thermal pants under them to work – and it worked out fine.

I dropped by quick, after work, for a rotisserie chicken.  On my way to the chickens, I saw beef jerky on sale.

12th Costco shopping in 2018 – $29.47 (today) / $453.83 (this year)

I bought a pair of really nice Calvin Klein pants (Costco Item #1147567).  They were made with a unique material and were shockingly beautiful. They looked even more beautiful when they were on me.  The pants were stretchy and super comfortable.  I immediately ran them through washer and dryer.  I was curious… (fingers crossed)

Soon, I discovered that these pants have to be ironed.  There is no way around.  If I want to enjoy these beautiful pants every day, I’ll have to iron 5-7 of these pants every week.  I iron a few shirts every Sunday morning for fun.  Adding several pairs of pants means I will spend one hour every Sunday morning ironing.  So, Sunday morning will no longer be my fun magic moment, but it will become a grind.

Currently, I wear black or gray jeans to work.  I never iron my jeans.  Unless you are Martha Stewart, not having to iron is a huge luxury in life. I will not buy any more of these pants.  I will keep this pair for special events.

Split Pea & Ham Soup – Kirkland Signature Recipe

I make ham dinner for Christmas.  I buy my ham from Costco, of course.  New years day is when I enjoy split pea & ham soup.  I make split pea soup with a leftover ham bone. I follow the recipe that comes with the ham.

Except, I do things a little differently.  I put less ham.  I don’t put salt and pepper. Ham is salty already, and I can always add them later.  When it comes to water, I put just enough amount of water to start.  I would add more water as needed.  Starting with less water is much better than starting with too much water – because there is no going back if you end up with thin soup.  You don’t need to think too much about how much water is needed.  You can just eyeball it and add more water as needed.  The soup will tell you how much water is needed.

To make the soup, you have to be the soup.

Also, I put a few bay leaves that are not in the recipe.

The soup was amazing good.  I ate half and put the other half in the freezer.

Check this out – Al Pastor Salad at Costco food court.  Let me know if you tried it before.  Did you like it?  The only reason why I didn’t try Al Pastor Salad is because of its high sodium content.  My doctor said I need to watch sodium intake. I guess I can completely skip the dressing, but…

Soo… anyway… I will not eat it, you eat it and let me know.  Haha..

What we know so far.

  • It’s not vegan – The dressing contains eggs. You may eat without dressing.
  • It has 3270 mg of sodium and 59 mg of fat
    • That’s a lot of salt.
    • FDA recommendeded daily sodium intake is less than 2300 mg

Nutritional facts can be found here.
https://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/costco-food-court-al-pastor-salad-697591844

It’s $4.99.  The sign says…

  • Plant based protein (soy)
  • Chopped romaine
  • Black beans and fresh vegetables
  • Banh mi vegetables and dressing
  • 330 – 750 cal.

It says 330 – 750 cal.  If I make an educated guess, that means the dressing is 420 Calories and the salad alone is 330 Calories. Which I am not surprised. It’s always dressings and tartar sauce that will do you in. Do not eat all the dressing,

Updated October 2018:
I don’t like The Original Green Pan that I bought in 2016.  They started to stick like glue after several month. The dimples were gimmick. Costco better not bring those pans back.

Pair of Original Green Pans were $39.99.  What caught my attention was that they have dimples – they call it “Dotted Surface” that optimally distributes oil. But, these pans are not good.  I am bitter about this experience.

I am sick of buying frying pans.  They all claim to be non-stick. But, they never last long enough.  My prior non-stick ceramic pan lasted about 4 months and it started to stick like glue.

With this update, I have removed my original blog.
