Costco’s Major Appliance Delivery Process

I bought a refrigerator from Costco. Below is delivery process.

  • When I ordered from online – The website asked for my delivery address and phone number.
    • I made sure to leave them my cellular phone number, so I would receive the call when I’m at work.
  • 2 days before delivery – I received an email from Costco.  The email contained a phone number just in case if I need to change my delivery date.  The email said that I would receive a phone call that would tell me the delivery window.
  • 1 day before delivery – They called me around 4:30PM.  It was an automated message informing me that my delivery window is between 7am – 11am.  It also said that they would call me around 30 minutes before arriving at my house.
  • Day of the delivery – They came to my house at 9am, but without calling me 30 minutes before-hand.
    • They hauled my old refrigerator & installed a new one with water line in about 30-45 minutes

My delivery process was smooth and painless.  People were pleasant. I hope your experience will be as pleasant as mine.

Final note: Appliance delivery can be a nightmare if your delivery people are young, inexperienced, and don’t give a dang. I think I was little lucky.

Buying a Refrigerator 2018 – Costco Shopping #50

50th Costco shopping in 2018 – $1,051.04 (today) / $4.327.55 (this year)

My refrigerator died at the worst possible time, while I was on 7 day vacation.

When I came back home from the vacation, inside of my freezer was in room temperature.  All my food had to be trashed.  I always keep my freezer full with rib-eye steaks, jumbo shrimps, fish, bacon, etc, etc…   But it’s OK.  It happens.  Refrigerator dies. What can I do?

Luckily, before taking trip, I took out the ice bucket and turned off the ice machine, so I didn’t have any water damage on the kitchen floor.

Yes, I actually thought about “What if my refrigerator dies while I’m away for seven days?”  I also shut off the main water supply to my house just in case there is a water leak in the house.

Shopping for a refrigerator.

My criteria for a new refrigerator:

  • Find the cheapest full size unit.  I refuse to buy expensive refrigerator, because refrigerators die.  I don’t believe in paying $500 to fix a 10 years old refrigerator.  I will pay $500 more and buy a new one with current technology.
  • Find a unit with good reviews.
  • I like side by side refrigerators.  I don’t like freezer on top.  I don’t like freezer on the bottom.  I don’t like French door.  People with different life-style prefer different door configurations, so side by side refrigerators may not work for you.  Personally, I cannot imagine myself bending over every single time I use a freezer.  As a single man, I freeze a lot of food.  I use both freezer and refrigerator equally.  I must have a side by side unit.
  • I like stainless steel – I understand stainless steel will show fingerprints.  But, I never touch my refrigerator except for the handles.  It will be my pleasure to clean the face of my refrigerator once in a while (with Windex – according to Martha Stewart).  Stainless steel will look the best in my kitchen.

I spent several hours researching refrigerators.

And, guess what?  Costco has the best price on refrigerators.

Basically, price on refrigerators is almost universal.  You can buy from anywhere and you will pay similar.  But, there are distinctive advantages on buying from Costco.  They are:

  • Costco is slightly cheaper – pretty much on all units.
  • You get Costco cash back reward from your purchase.
  • (In my case) I get 2 years warranty, extended by Costco, instead of usual 1 year warranty from any other stores.
  • They haul away my old unit for free – some may charge $20 – $25 for this.
  • They will hook up water line for free – some may charge extra for this.

*If you are in a hurry – relax and just buy from Costco.

I ordered GE 25.4 CuFt Side-By-Side Refrigerator in Stainless Steel.  Total price was $1,051.04

I hope delivery process will be smooth. I will update you.

Costco Shopping – November 7, 2018

49th Costco shopping in 2018 – $75.41 (today) / $3276.51 (this year)

Rental car for the last day of my trip.

At 7AM I picked up the car at the Down Town Battle Creek, Michigan.

Around 9:30AM, I arrived at Michael Jackson’s childhood house in Gary Indiana.  The entire house was fenced in.  I stood by at the house alone and cried. I was emotional.

Rental car was $75.41, but I drove through two toll roads.  I stopped at the first toll gate and I was completely puzzled.  I didn’t know what to do, because there was no human at the gate.  Then the toll gate communicated with my car and the gate was opened for me.  I am pretty sure I will be charged with that service.  On the second toll road, I went to the correct gate where I could pay with cash.

I ate my last meal of the trip in Chicago.  I went to Portillo’s for a Chicago style hot dog. I like Chicago style hot dog very much.  It was cute that I tried Deep Dish Pizza, but I didn’t like Deep Dish Pizza that much.  I like New York style better – and good old Costco style.

I dropped off my rental car at Chicago Midway Airport – They have a nice system going on that it was not that confusing to return my car.  I was nervous, but I followed signs all the way to parking garage. I told people “I am a first timer” – and people were kind.

Good times.

Costco Shopping – November 3 & 7, 2018

47th Costco shopping in 2018 – $16.72 (today) / $3194.89 (this year)

48th Costco shopping in 2018 – $6.21 (today) / $3201.1 (this year)

It was fun visiting Costco in different cities. In the Midwestern US, buildings were ready for cold weather.  They were selling Winter products such as snow scrapers.  I saw a nice jacket at Chicago Costco for $70.  They were gentlemen’s long coats that goes with dress-shirt and tie.  I regret I didn’t buy that jacket. Jackets like that are not available online.

Gas was cheap compared to what I normally pay in California.  In California, I pay $4/gallon for cheapest grade gasoline.  In Indiana a gallon of gasoline was $2.56.

Costco Shopping – October 17, 2018

 46th Costco shopping in 2018 – $119.67 (today) / $3178.17 (this year)

Both roses and lint rollers were for a friend who is a pet owner.  Both of them were on sale.  Girls like that kind of stuff, so… bada bing, bada boom.  Who loves you, baby?

I had to buy more frying pans.  I bought The Original Green Pans at Costco 2 years ago – those pans quickly became unusable. I am bitter that Costco sold me The Original Green Pans.  Those pans are not good at all.  I hope these will perform better.

I started to chew sugar free gum, because I started to wear invisalign.  You should never chew gum while wearing invisalign.  I chew gum after food or drink, especially when I’m at work or outside.  This makes it somewhat ok to put my invisaline back on temporarily.  And I try to properly brush on my earliest opportunity.

And, candies for Halloween. 🙂

Costco Shopping – October 10, 2018

 45th Costco shopping in 2018 – $77.39 (today) / $3058.5 (this year)

European Cookies are back.  I call them “Christmas Cookies”, and they are my 10 years old Christmas tradition.  Every Christmas season, I buy these cookies and make them last until the next Christmas season.  I only eat these cookies on Sunday morning with coffee.  My idea is that I enjoy little bit of Christmas all year. Eating these cookies with Sunday morning coffee – using my Sunday coffee mug is the highlight of the day.  I enjoy that moment very much.

Jarlsberg cheese was on sale.  It’s ridiculously cheap when it’s on sale.  To me, it is a luxury item, but I cannot pass it when it’s on sale.

Peanuts are so good. Unsalted is the way to go if you are grown up and watch blood pressure.

Memory foam slippers are for my work.  I have a cozy and private cubicle at work that I decided to wear these slippers at my cubicle.

Costco Shopping – August 14, 2018

44th Costco shopping in 2018 – $109.45 (today) / $2981.11 (this year)

This is a late post.

I bought 15 pairs of English Laundry pants 2 months ago in August (2018).  I had a high hope, but these pants were different than their last batch. The fabric and colors were different.  Some people may like them, but they weren’t for me.  So I kept 5 pairs and returned 10.

Costco Shopping – September 17, 2018

 43rd Costco shopping in 2018 – $30.05 (today) / $2871.66 (this year)

I bought a pair of Puma pants (French Terry Jogger).  Then I changed my mind and returned it the next day.

That’s about it.  I am still saving money.

Costco Shopping – August 31, 2018

42nd Costco shopping in 2018 – $31.70 (today) / $2841.61 (this year)

I have never purchased anything from sampling food at Costco until today.  Hawaiian Style Chicken was SOOO good that I had to buy it.  I shall buy it one more time.

I bought St Louis Style Ribs to celebrate Labor Day.  The ribs were… OK.  I like the oven cooking instruction on the package (picture below).  I shall use that cooking technique but with different seasonings.  I used a baking pan that’s about 1/2 inch high.  You don’t have to use 2 Inches deep pan .  I don’t know why it asks for 2 inches high – it scares people who don’t know how to cook.

Costco Shopping – August 26 & 29, 2018

Boring… in and out..

Costco Shopping – August, 1 2018

36th Costco shopping in 2018 – $19.44 (today) / $2727.96 (this year)

37th Costco shopping in 2018 – $4.49 (today) / $2732.45 (this year)

I went for normal boring stuff.. they didn’t have celery, so I went back a couple of days later.  I saw a first hint of Christmas at Costco.

Costco Shopping – July 27, 2018

35th Costco shopping in 2018 – $41.68 (today) / $2708.52 (this year)

I looked everywhere, but I didn’t see any sign of Christmas at Costco today.  But Christmas is coming to Costco very soon, I promise.

I really like Kirkland Signature Basil Pesto, so I bought one more jar while it was still on sale. They freeze well. I guess they will last well over a year in freezer.  If you take it out of freezer they quickly become soft that you can scoop it out while pasta is getting ready.

I shall always keep this Basil Pesto along with pasta at home.

I bought Jose’s Chocolate Raspberry coffee to get ready for Christmas. I will enjoy this coffee on Thanksgiving day when I bake turkey, and when I watch Polar Express on Christmas Eve.

2 dozen roses were $13.99.  I couldn’t think of a reason NOT to buy them.
