Christmas shopping started - 2 nephews done

Christmas shopping has officially begun.  I bought gifts for 2 nephews today.

I bought 2 RC cars from Costco, they were $49 for a set of two.  I paid $34 after $15.00 coupon.

Then I went to Wal*Mart and bought a $100.00 worth of rechargeable batteries and a 15 minutes charger.  I believe my nephews will like the batteries.  With today's electronic gadgets, you can never have too much batteries.  And 15 minute recharging time is cool.

Now I have about $70.00 allowance for my niece.

Christmas is for the children.  I spend all my possible money on the youngsters.  My grown up family members udnerstand that I don't buy gifts for grown ups.  We have fun watching the kids opening presents.

For grown ups, I bring cakes and shrimp cocktails from Costco.  I can't wait to Christmas. 4 months will fly by.  Oh boy...

I want a Costco near me!!! Someone please help!

Hi, I was writing a paper on the organizational culture of Costco and found this site. I noticed a link to request a Costco to be put in Knoxville and was wondering a few things. Has this helped at all? Does Knoxville have one yet? How can I get in on this and get a Costco petition for Norman, Oklahoma? I moved here from Maryland (where I had multiple locations to go to get my Costco fix) and found the nearest Costco is a little over three hours away in Texas. I have made the journey already, but only for specific items that I could not get anywhere else. I love Costco and am extremely jealous of places that have two, three or more Costcos within fifty miles of each other. Norman is a growing town and NEEDS a Costco. I have already sent two e-mails to Costco's development department, but have only received a thank you for your interest note for a reply. Please help! I am craving a chicken bake in a bad way!!! Thanks, LC

Avoid Church People - Sunday Afternoon

I absolutely avoid going to Costco on Sunday afternoon.

I may go to Costco Sunday early morning, but I make sure that I get out around noon.  That's when a wave of church people coming to Costco.  I believe Sunday after noon is the busiest time at Costco.

On Sunday afternoon, I see a lot of people wearing nice church clothes.  Some people look rich, and some look poor.  But they are all good looking.  In many cases, they come to Costco with number of family members.

I usually go to Costco after work on the weekdays.  I enjoy slow traffic inside Costco that way.  Also, I spend little or no time waiting at gas station line.

Guinness Beer from Costco

Costco doesn't always carry Guinness in my area.  I don't normally see Guinness at my Costco, but I see them occasionally.

18 cans of Guinness sell for $20.99 at Costco.  That's $1.17 a can.  Considering a cup of coffee is $2.00, I think it's a reasonable price.  Still, Guinness is priced two times more than cheaper domestic beers.  Guinness is imported beer from Ireland.

I favor expensive beers because I am not a drinker.  I rarely drink any alcoholic beverages.  I drink maybe 1 can of beer a month.

Also, I don't like the taste of beer.  All beers taste bitter to me.  Expensive beers tend to taste less yucky, so when I drink beer, I go for expensive ones.

Costco beer, Guinness

I bought the beer mug from Bed Bath & Beyond for $5.00.  Cold frosty mug makes beer drinking experience more enjoyable.

Best price on Sony DVD

I never buy blank DVD's from Costco.  Blank DVD's at Costco don't have good price.  Costco sells spindles of 100 blank Sony DVDs at $29.49 each. I can easily find the exact same Sony DVD's for $23.00.

This time Costco had "Buy one, get one free" coupon on these Sony DVD's.

So, they come out under $15.00 each spindle (100 pack).  Now that's a pretty good price on blank DVD's.

PS. I forgot to use this coupon the other day.  I dropped by today when I was on my way to meet somebody.

I have a BS degree in computer.  But I don't know the difference between -R and +R.  They all work for me  But I always mix -R's & +R's just in case.

Two kinds of syrups from Costco

Costco carries (at least) two different kinds of pancake syrups.

  • Kirkland 100% Pure Maple Syrup (64 oz = 1/2 Gallon) - $19.95
    • $0.31/ Oz
  • Aunt Jemima Original (2x36 oz = 72 oz) - 4.89
    • $0.07/Oz

Costco Syrup, Kirkland Maple, Aunt Jemima

*  Per ounce, Kirkland's 100% Pure Maple Syrup costs roughly 4.5 times more than Aunt Jemima's Original Syrup.

I cannot tell orange juice from Tang.  I was curious to know why Kirkland's syrup is so expensive.  So I tried them both.

When I tasted Kirkland's syrup & Aunt Jemima's syrup in separate dates, I couldn't really tell which syrup was better.  But when I tasted both syrups at the same sitting, I could clearly tell that Kirkland's Maple Syrup had a better taste.  It almost made me to dislike Aunt Jemima's syrup.

Aunt Jemima's syrup tasted like sugar while Kirkland's syrup had a taste of natural nectar.

Which syrup I am going to buy next time?

I am not sure.  I am absolutely torn between "saving money" and "enjoying better taste".

Aunt Jemima's Original Syrup is pretty good.  If I didn't know about the Maple Syrup, I will still be a happy camper.  But, now I know how amazing Kirkland's Maple Syrup is.  To me, it's worth of paying 3 times more for Kirkland's maple syrup.  I am quite not sure if it's worth of paying 4.5 times more.  I really don't know which one to buy the next time.

Shopping at Costco - August 5, 2008

Today's treat was the shrimps.  I look at these shrimps everytime I go to Costco.  I thought I've waited long enough to enjoy some.

I also had a hotdog.  and I put gas in the car. (3.99/gal)
