how do you get the costco coupon books? do they automatically send it out or do I need to sign up for it??

Yes, they will mail you if you join Costco membership.
When you join, if you request your address to be private then you will not receive coupon book. This is what happened to me.
So, make sure that your address doesn’t have privacy block.

I don’t think so.
If you didn’t receive your coupon book, you may ask for it at customer service. But, you have to do this ASAP. Sometimes they have extra copies… then they run out.

Yes, I see a lot of good stuff (besides 5 bags of Starbucks coffee I’m going to get).
I see the cheese, Hebrew National hot-dogs, Irish Springs soaps, and some more…
I hope my Costco coupon book will arrive soon enough.
