Costco to Raise Membership Fee

Costco Wholesale Corp. said it is raising membership fees for about 22 million customers, as the largest U.S. warehouse club operator seeks to offset rising costs.

The 10% increase in membership fees, going into effect next month, may help offset the disappointing operating margin the company showed in the latest quarter. Operating margin shrank to 2.7% from 2.9% amid double-digit increases in merchandise and overhead costs on a percentage basis.

Costco shopping – September 27, 2011. 

Chocolates of the World is back. I bought 5 jugs last year. I still have one fresh jug left. So, this time I bought 3 jugs.

I also bought 2 cans of Christmas Cookies (Belgian Cookies). I wanted to buy 1 more can, but I don’t have money.

Other than that, everything else I bought was good (healthy) item.

Costco was packed with Christmas stuff. We are in full swing now.

I went to Costco during my lunchtime. I didn’t have time for a hot dog. Also, I try not to eat meat on weekdays. I try to keep in shape.

As I was getting ready to leave Costco, I saw an old lady at the parking lot, trying to load her trunk with heavy items. So, I stopped & got out of my car. I said, “Let me help you. Pretty young thing like you….” “I am 84”, she said with laughter. I loaded her trunk as we made small talk. Soon after, I took her empty cart and told her to drive carefully.

Fresh Basil Plant Mystery

I bought a small pot of basil 10 days ago at local Smart & Final. I enjoy fresh basil on my pasta and tomatoes. I eat tomatoes at work as a snack. I sprinkle some freshly chopped basil on my tomato. They taste so fresh.

But my plant is dying rather quickly. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

I give 1/2 inch of water. And I leave the pot where I get partial Sunlight.

I thought I would enjoy fresh basil from this pot forever. I am going to buy another pot and give it another try. I would like to figure out how to keep them alive for a long time. Maybe I don’t live in the right climate? I don’t know. I must find out.

Happy Labor Day 2011

Happy Labor Day, everyone.

I don’t work physical labor. But I can use a long weekend. I’ve been putting so much over-time that I’ve been totally wiped out for several weeks now. I can use some sleep.

I was home alone for the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, I ate baby back rib and ribeye steak.

I listened to a lot of Christmas music this weekend. I burned Christmas candles and watched Polar Express. Polar Express is a relatively new movie, but it quickly became my favorite Christmas movie. 

It’s 2 am Labor Day (Monday) morning. Summer is unofficially over. I have a door opened right now. There is a hint of winter in the air. It’s crisp and cold. I’m going to bed now.

Costco will be closed for Labor Day. I wonder if Bed Bath and Beyond will be opened. I was home alone for 2 days straight. I want to drive around a little.
