Don’t forget to check out this page for Holiday savings that’s going on already. You can also view savings for Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday savings. I see some food items I will buy to treat myself for this season, including jumbo shrimps.
I’ve heard about paper straws on news media but this was the first time seeing them in person – at Costco Food Court. As I was dressing my hot dog, I could hear people talking about the paper straws. They were basically saying “Oh, paper straws”
The straw was narrower than normal plastic straws that I am use to. I would prefer wider straws, but that’s an American gripe (one of the reasons why some people hate Americans). Paper straws are just fine. I enjoyed my hot dog.
Out of curiosity, after my hot dog lunch, I filled my soda cup with water and came back to work. I drank that water rest of the day using the same paper straw. The straw held up nicely. I think tip of the straw will break apart if you hold it in your mouth constantly for a few hours. Besides that, paper straws seem perfectly fine for normal people.
It was nice to see paper straws at Costco food court.
Update (January 14, 2020): After reading some of the comments, I paid close attention to the straws on my next few visits to Costco food court. And I can tell you without any hesitation that I absolutely enjoy using these paper straws at Costco. Again, maybe it’s because I grew up (& lived) poor all my life. Maybe I am just not sensitive to taste and smell. Whatever the reason may be, I am absolutely happy with these paper straws at Costco food court. But it is also important to hear from people who don’t like these straws. Because maybe I am the minority in this opinion poll.
Holiday season is approaching fast that I can feel it on my skin. We had a pretty warm day today, but as I hurried to Costco after work, it quickly turned chilly as the Sun started to go down already.
With my empty cart, I went straight to Christmas aisle. I stayed there for awhile and enjoyed this train village (Sold out late October). I liked the music and lights. And the train was going in and out… This thing was a dream. I couldn’t walk away from it. I thought about people living in those tiny houses. I wish I had this when I was a kid. But, aren’t we all kids? Anyway, Christmas is magic. Oh, how I cherish Costco’s Christmas aisle…
Soon, I was back on to Costco shopping. Coupons (instant savings) saved $27.50.
European Cookies (#181679 $8.99 after $3 off) have been my holiday ritual for last 10 years or so. Every holiday season, I buy a few cans of these cookies from Costco and put them in freezer. I enjoy them on weekend with morning coffee. My plan is to enjoy little bit of Christmas throughout the year. I bought 3 boxes of of these cookies last year. I am on the last box now.
Soy beans and pot stickers (#440175 $7.99 after $3 off) will last several months for me. It’s good to have variety of quick meals handy. Especially if you live alone, you have plenty room in your freezer, and keeping a freezer full will save energy.
I failed miserably on watermelon this time. The watermelon I bought today was barely enjoyable. It was about 7 out of scale of 10. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever have a good watermelon rest of my life. I would pay $100 for a really good watermelon. I suck so bad at picking watermelons. I spent a lot of time and money hunting for a super-fantastic watermelon.
I bought three bottles of Nature’s Bounty, Nair, Skin & Nails (#553486, $12.46 after $3.50 off). I’ve been taking Biotin supplements every other day, but my hair was getting thinner over the years. I shall take extra dose of these and see if my hair will grow thicker. Don’t get old, people.. don’t get old… 🙁
Michelin wiper blades are super cheap at Costco, especially when there is instant rebate like right now. So, go and get your wiper blades at Costco. If you don’t need it now, just buy a pair and keep them in your trunk. You will thank me later. The sale ends October 27, 2019.
Three days later, at a garage sale, I bought 2 wiper blades for $2. This is a typical garage sale irony that happens sometimes.
There was a lot of watermelons at Costco. Using my prior experience, I looked at the bottom part of each watermelon and picked out one watermelon that I think had the best looking underbelly. I took it home and cut it open. It was enjoyable but was not super-fantastic. It was 8 1/2 out of scale of 10. I would like one really good watermelon before the season ends.
Box of Kirkland Signature Christmas chocolates is for the guys at mail annex (warehouse) at my work. I will give them the first Christmas gift of the year (in October). I do a lot of online shopping and get all my packages delivered to my work. I shall keep my mail-room guys happy.
I believe Occuvite works for me. As I get older, I started to see strange black spot. I see tiny black dust whenever I open my right eye. But, it goes away if I take Occuvite. I take it every other day or once every three days.
I cannot get enough of Vietnamese Pho instant noodles. It’s so good and different than what I’m used to. I know they are bad for me (high sodium, empty calories, early death, etc..), but they are so good. Also, each serving unit is smaller than most instant noodles, so I eat less sodium and less calories. I bought 2 boxes while they were still on sale.
Season is changing. I see more pumpkins than watermelons in stores now. This year, I only had one super-fantastic watermelon. I would really like to enjoy some good watermelons before the season ends. I walked in to Costco warehouse focused – and found less than 10 watermelons huddling at the bottom of a bin. I bent down in an awkward position for a few minutes looking for the best looking watermelon.
I cannot imagine female shoppers going for watermelons in this extreme bent-down position. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone files a law suit against putting watermelons in ground level like this. It’s not only physically challenging to a lot of people, but it prevents most female shoppers from getting watermelons. It puts shoppers in awkward position.
Anyway, I found one watermelon for me. It didn’t look very good, but it was the best of what was left. This reminded me of myself.. I may not be a super-fantastic guy, but I am as good as it could get in what’s left of single men at my age. So… get some. Haha!
I took the watermelon home and cut it open. It was juicy and crispy. It had an amazing texture, but it was not super sweet. Center part was pretty good, but outer meat was not super-fantastic. I rate this 8 1/2 out of 10 in yummy scale. It was still enjoyable.
It’s Christmas time! Christmas nativities were in stock at Costco! But… as I get older, holiday season is starting to feel little depressing. It feels like last Christmas was only a few months ago. And yet another year is coming to an end. Life is still fun and positive. But, now I see more life in my rear-view mirror than in front. It’s kind of bittersweet. Anyway, let’s enjoy while we are still here. Please stay healthy and share love with me.
SPAM was on sale – I understand a lot of people don’t like SPAM. But, to me, SPAM is crazy good times. We don’t know what kind of meat we’re eating, but who cares when they are so yum? I will marry anyone who smells like SPAM (mm… maybe not).
I have a friend who likes cheese, so I’ve been buying different cheese lately.
Focus Factors and Weider Prime are mystery products. I don’t know if they do anything for me. It’s just… I am scared to miss out on anything if I don’t take these. So, I take them time to time to see if I feel anything different.
And finally, I bought a watermelon. I’ve been obsessing over watermelons lately. Before I go any further, you have to understand how it is to be a single man living alone. I don’t pick up kids after school, I don’t plan family vacation, I don’t worry about my wife’s dental plan, etc… Compared to normal family men, I have a huge void. I need to find something to channel my energy, so I will not cry myself to sleep every night. For now, I am obsessing about watermelons. I would like to develop the art of finding good watermelons. So, back to Costco…. This time I bought a watermelon with dark yellow underbelly. I took it home and opened it. It was very red, very sweet, but mushy. This watermelon was too ripened. The next day, I went to a local market and bought another watermelon. That one was enjoyable, but it was not super-fantastic.
I often I have two cut opened watermelons in my refrigerator. I normally end up throwing away one of them. So far, I only have had one super-fantastic watermelon this year. This is frustrating.
I am obsessed about watermelons. I want good watermelons, but I don’t know how to pick them. This watermelon from Costco was not very tasty. So, went online and studied how to find good watermelons. Next day I went to a local market and bought another watermelon. This one was good, but not super-fantastic. There should be a law against selling watermelons that are not super-fantastic.
I stocked up of Irish Spring soaps.
Instant Vietnamese Pho was on sale so I gave it a try. Oh my God, they are amazing good. It goes nicely with sriracha sauce. They are not good for you, but they are SOOO good. Yum~*
José’s Gourmet Coffee was having a road show at my warehouse. This was a perfect timing. I picked up 3 bags of Christmas flavors. I will give one bag to a friend. Smell of these coffee makes holiday season more festive, and it makes me feel cozy when it’s cold or raining outside. Jose’s flavored coffee is guaranteed good times.
It was a good Costco shopping. I shall get a better watermelon next time.
I use three different kinds of soaps. They are; 1) Fancy boutique soap for hand washing, 2) moisturizing soap (Dove) for shower, and 3) squeaky clean soap (Irish Spring), also for shower.
In shower I use two different soaps on different parts of my body. For example, I want moisturizing soap on my body, but I want dry soap on my armpits and face.
Irish Spring is my go-to squeaky clean soap. Costco always put these soaps on sale time to time. So, I always buy Irish Spring with extra savings at Costco.
I didn’t know anything about Pecorino Romano Cheese. I thought I can cut it up and snack it. But, DANG, this cheese is salty. I mean it’s very very salty, that it cannot be good for my blood pressure. My tongue is still burning from the cheese. Afterwards, I went online and learned that Pecorino Romano Cheese is supposed to grated over pasta and such. It taste good though… just salty.
Tuxedo mousse cups and creme brulee are for block party at my neighborhood. These are guaranteed good times. People love these.
Turkey Jerky is a treat to myself for this weekend.
Bag of spinach is for Vitamix juice and cooking. I put the entire bag of spinach in the freezer. They stay fresh frozen for a long time (months). You should not freeze spinach if you want it for salad. I also freeze milk.
I will probably trash some cherries because I will not be able to eat them all. I no longer feel guilty about throwing away food. I pay tax and put my best efforts to cut down waste. That’s all I can do
** I trashed the cherries a few days later. They were not very good.
Check out Hot Buys deals at Costco.com. This sales event started today (July 29), and it’s good thru either August 4 or August 6th. The sale lasts for only 7 to 9 days.
There are only 27 items on sale. But there are some good stuff on sale, such as Kirkland Signature beef hot dogs ($3) and shampoos ($3). Costco shampoos are super good deal as is, but with $3 off, I will try to buy maximum allowed 2 bottles. Check out the sales here.
I followed the procedure step by step, but I couldn’t get it to work. I don’t know how to verify my membership. I logged in, but it doesn’t verify my membership. I gave up after a little try. I shall try again in a month or two.
23st Costco shopping in 2019 – $43.79 (today) / $1447.34 (this year) Update: A week later, my order was cancelled by Costco. Out of stock, it said. Hm..
I’m a watch guy. It’s fun to get dressed and pick out a watch as a final touch.
Invicta is a cheap watch maker. They make mostly sub $100 watches. All of their watches look cheap, cheesy, and tacky. Their watches scream “I AM POOR~!!!“. But, this one… the one that’s on sale at Costco (#1260452 – $39.39) is beautiful. It’s beautiful because it’s a $30,000 Rolex Submariner copy cat. Its classic design is historically proven by Rolex. This Invicta watch sells for $80 elsewhere, so $40 is a very good price, and it’s backed by Costco. $20 sale ends June 16.
I was never interested in diver watches before. But, for a Rolex look-alike for $40.00?… So I ordered one ($43.79 after tax. Free shipping) . I never dive. Maybe I take bath with it.
Update: This watch is now sold out soon after my blog. I kind of guessed they would sell out (with or without my incluence).
To give proper credit, Invicta watches are cheap, but not horribly bad. That’s why I ordered one (thanks to Costco and Invicta). When you travel or camping, you can slap this on without worrying about getting it damaged. I am glad Costco sells Invicta.
I don’t think anyone says “Happy Memorial Day”, because this is not a happy day. We take short time thinking about those who died for us – and we enjoy long weekend. Memorial Day unofficially marks the beginning of Summer. A lot of us relax and enjoy BBQ on Memorial Day. I went to Costco for some BBQ ribs and Hot Dog wieners.
I bought 4 coupon items. Costco Coupons saved me $14. I thought that was a lot of savings. Considering I spent only $33.46. Most items will stay frozen for a long time. I was poor all my life. Having freezer full of Costco stuff is very satisfying to me.
*Earlier today, 2 of my co-workers and I went to Costco for hot dogs. Feeling generous, I told them it was going to be my treat. I thought they would get pizza, hot dog, maybe both. A female coworker was tiny, too. Anyway, Mofos ordered 2 Acai Bowls, 2 Pizzas, and 2 Drinks. I was out $18. I ate a hot dog.
